Discovering Water Faye At Windermere Cerulean Phoenix, 29 April 202313 July 2024 The Faye or fairies have always been known to be wood dwelling creatures born from nature. They have been a part of folk lore and mythology throughout the ages and part of all cultures in world wide. They have taken on many forms, including but not limited to human forms, pixies, and goblins. Some have been seen illustrated as dragonflies and even butterflies. There have been endless theories about their magic and abilities. They are often to tided to the four core elements, ie water, earth, wind and fire, with it being documented that they are able the exert power and control over specific elements one at a time. Some even believe that fairies are at the heart of all creations. Not that they created but that they inspire the beauty we experience in the world. And to be fair I can see how such a believe makes sense as the Faye are the caretakers of nature. On a ferry headed for the small town of Bowness, the serene scenery, breathtaking in its beauty on Windermere. The lake, well mere side view, the distant rolling hills, lake side forest and the lake itself. It was a cold rainy day on the mere to be sure but is was still something to behold. I prayed quietly for the sun to shine and show the true beauty of the Lake district, The water, the smallest warbles of waves as the ferry made its way across. Approximately 30min on the water. Not a long time but long enough for me to notice. The small scree like dolphins but not. I looked around, in the immediate waters and then a little to the distance. The small figures caught my attention, arched the water like fish but not fish. Their colours vibrant and fluid, almost metallic in nature. They looked almost like fish but their faces where different. Not quite human. They made me think of mermaids for a second but I recognised them from my fairy oracle card deck. First there was one. Then there was more. It became clear to me that there was a colony of unseen beings right there in front of me. Swimming with the ferry as if they where entertaining themselves. Surely I am not the first to see them here? I would google them later I thought, but for now I would just observe them. Their fore fins covered their arms, they would flap for a moment, dive back into the water and sore right beneath the surface shimmering in their being. In my research I found numerous references to fairies and the magics they wield but the water Faye is hard to find. Perhaps because they have adapted through the ages or because peoples minds have become clouded to the possibility. Quite possibly both. But they are truly not even hiding. They are there for anyone with an open mind to see them. It’s strange how much magic there still are in the world as most people believe that it has withered. It is true that magic is not as prominent as it once was and people all over the world spend thousands in pursuit of it. But seeing these Faye made me realise that magic can still be found freely if you only dare to pay attention to nature. Fin folk Finding water faye on google was a challenge to be sure I new there would a record but lets face it I called them water faye on a whim but the question was what did those who came before me call them. I finally found reference to them in A witches guide to fairy folk (Edwin McCoy). They are known as fin folk. Not to be mistaken for mermaids they are faeries that opted to avoid human contact. Their feelings toward humanity is rather apathetic and as a result they took to the water many moons ago. Their power is mostly water based and they are most active in the lochs of Scotland. But that does not rule out lakes and large bodies of water where they can be found. I find it amusing even within myself how much humans think they know about the magical world. But I don’t think we will ever be more than spectators at a door looking through a peephole as all that the magical world truly is. Random Thoughts #fairy#faye#magic#mythology#windermere
